Waiting on Wednesday: Flawless by Lara Chapman

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" is:

Flawless by Lara Chapman

Release Date: May 2011
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Age Group: Young Adult

A hilarious story of misguided matchmaking, a best friend's boyfriend, and a big nose.

Sarah Burke is just about perfect. She's got killer blue eyes gorgeous blond hair, and impeccable grades. There's just one tiny-alright, enormous-flaw. Her nose. But even that's not so bad. Sarah's got the best best friend and big goals for print journalism fame.

But on the first day of senior year, Rock Conway walks into her journalism class and, well, rocks her world. Problem is, her best friend Kristen falls for him too. And when Rock and Kristen stand together it's like Barbie and Ken come to life. So when Kristen begs Sarah to help her nab Rock, Sarah does the only thing a best friend can do. She agrees. For someone so smart, what was she thinking?

This hip modern retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac is filled with hilarious mis-guided matchmaking, sweet romance, and a gentle reminder that we should all embrace our flaws.

For those of you who don’t know (and I didn’t) the Cyrano story is a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand about Hercule Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac, a cadet (nobleman serving as a soldier) in the French Army, who is a brash, strong-willed man of many talents. In addition to being a remarkable duelist, he is a gifted, joyful poet and is also shown to be a musician. However, he has an extremely large nose, which is a target for his own self-doubt. This doubt prevents him from expressing his love for his distant cousin, the beautiful Roxane, as he believes that his ugliness forbids him to "dream of being loved by even an ugly woman (taken from wikipedia.com). I haven’t read the play but I have seen the 1987 movie Roxanne based on the Cyrano story starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah which I adore, it is so funny.

So long story short Flawless sounds like it’s going to be such a funny and cute read, I have to get my hands on a copy when it’s released. Unfortunately there is no cover as of yet, I can’t wait to find out what it will be like once it’s revealed though, it should be interesting.

Well that’s my “waiting on” pick, what's yours this week?
