This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" is:

All These Things I've Done (Birthright #1) by Gabrielle Zevin
Release Date: September 27, 2011
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux
Age Group: Young Adult
From the author of the critically acclaimed Elsewhere comes this brilliant novel about an impossible romance, a family living outside of the law, and the ties that forever bind us.
Chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is increasingly scarce, andNew York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city’s most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine—going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.'s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until someone in her inner circle ends up poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she’s to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight—at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafiya family.
Engrossing and suspenseful, All These Things I’ve Done is an utterly unique, unputdownable read that blends both the familiar and fantastic.

Engrossing and suspenseful, All These Things I’ve Done is an utterly unique, unputdownable read that blends both the familiar and fantastic.
Has anyone ever wondered what a world without chocolate and coffee would be like? Well you’re in luck, look no further than this little dystopian goody. Where do you even come up with a world without chocolate, I mean blow my mind Gabrielle Zevin! Would a world without chocolate even be worth living? There would definitely be a lot of cranky peeps in that world. Plus poisoned chocolate, who would do such a thing, sacrilegious! Anyways apart from my little chocolate obsession with this book the plot actually sounds really interesting and definitely unique (well for me anyway). I say bring on All These Thing’s I’ve Done so I can read it in all it’s dystopian chocolatey goodness!
Well that’s my “waiting on” pick, what's yours this week?

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine, which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" is:

Still Waters by Emma Carlson Berne
Release Date: December 20, 2011
Publisher: Simone Pulse
Age Group: Young Adult
Hannah and Colin seem to have the perfect relationship, but as her second-to-last year of school draws to a close and Colin prepares to head off to college, Hannah feels he might be slipping away. She knows they need some real quality time alone if she’s going to hold on to him.
So when she finds pictures of his old family lake house, she secretly schemes to get him there. But when they arrive, he’s not thrilled. Actually, he’s totally freaked out. And though she gets him to relax, his behavior becomes stranger by the day: he disappears for long stretches of the night, has a bizarre breakdown in a nearby diner, and when the car stops running, he seems completely unconcerned about fixing it. The lake house holds secrets, and what Hannah doesn’t know and Colin can’t remember just might kill them both.
STILL WATERS is a riveting, suspenseful, atmospheric thriller by Emma Carlson Berne , author of Hard to Get.
Yes finally it’s a YA thriller, oh I’ve been waiting to read a decent sounding YA thriller since I finished Desires of the Dead and hence because this is my WOW pick I think it will be a decent, nay a fantabulous YA thriller based solely on the sound of the blurb. My mind is reeling with questions, what happened at the lake house? Why is Colin freaked out about it? What secrets are hidden in the lake house? Hmmm questions, questions, questions, I guess the only way to get answers is to read the book which I’ll be doing once it’s released in December, which seems so far away L
Well that’s my “waiting on” pick, what's yours this week?

Abby and Luke chat online. They’ve never met. But they are going to. Soon.
When Abby meets Luke online, she can’t believe her luck. He’s nice. He’s funny. He listens to her and he thinks she’s pretty. He even gets jealous of other guys, which is adorable. Without Luke, Abby’s not sure how she’d make it through her first year of high school. Everyone, including her mom and her best friend, Faith, tells Abby that if she just made more of an effort, she’d be having fun instead of dreading each and every day as if it’s a prison sentence. But there’s nothing fun about being the lowest link in the social food chain.
Abby knows she’s not supposed to chat with random guys online. But Luke isn’t random, and he isn’t a stranger. Best of all, he really loves her. So what if she never goes out with her friends anymore and her grades are slipping? All she needs is Luke. Luke is her secret, and she’s his — it’s perfect that way. So when Luke suggests that they meet each other in person, Abby agrees. And then she’s gone. Missing. Without a trace. And everyone is left to put together the pieces. If they don’t, they’ll never see Abby again...
That’s right folks I have done it again this week and managed to pick another thought provoking read, I think next week I’ll choose a real fluffy, light hearted read but for now let’s stick to the darker stuff *rubs hands together in anticipation*
Okay so hands up if you’ve ever chatted online to random people, so of course I can’t see your hands but I’m guessing some of you have, I’ll admit that I have, in my younger years my friends and I would go on and talk to random peeps for some shits and giggles, yes we were very immature and I can see that we were a bit dippy because the internet can be a dangerous place, we never really know who we could be chatting to and apparently there are some exceptionally gross disgusting people out there who like to target kids and teens, it gives me the willies just thinking there are people like that out there. If I think about it I actually chat to random peeps online but this time it’s not through a chat line where some seedy types frequent but through my blog and all of you guys are really great, that said however I still follow some general internet safety rules (you'd be silly not to), and I guess it's these rules that must be discussed with both kids and teens so they know the potential risks that are out there.
This whole chatting online business with kids and teens is a huge issue and one that should be taken seriously so I really hope this book turns out to be as good as I think it will be, just reading the synopsis left me drooling for the book. What is obvious though is that Sarah has really done her research so if anyone’s interested Sarah has some quite startling statistics on internet use by kids and teens and also has some internet safety links.

Exposure by Therese Fowler
Release Date: May 3, 2011
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Age Group: Young Adult
In Exposure, Therese Fowler has written her most gripping novel to date—a ripped-from-the-headlines story of ardent young love and a nightmarish legal maelstrom that threatens to destroy two families.
Amelia Wilkes’s strict father does not allow her to date, but that doesn’t stop the talented, winsome high school senior from carrying on a secret romance with her classmate Anthony Winter. Desperately in love, the two envision a life together and plan to tell Amelia’s parents only after she turns eighteen and is legally an adult. Anthony’s mother, Kim, who teaches at their school, knows—and keeps—their secret. But the couple’s passion is exposed sooner than planned: Amelia’s father, Harlan, is shocked and infuriated to find naked pictures of Anthony on his daughter’s computer. Just hours later, Anthony is arrested.
Despite Amelia’s frantic protests, Harlan uses his wealth and influence with local law enforcement and the media to label Anthony a deviant who preyed on his innocent daughter. Spearheaded by a zealous prosecutor anxious to turn the case into a public crusade against “sexting,” the investigation soon takes an even more disturbing and destructive turn.
As events spiral wildly out of control and the scandalous story makes national news, Amelia and Anthony risk everything in a bold and dangerous attempt to clear their names and end the madness once and for all.
A captivating page-turner, Therese Fowler’s Exposure is also a deftly crafted, provocative, and timely novel that serves as a haunting reminder of the consequences of love in the modern age.
A captivating page-turner, Therese Fowler’s Exposure is also a deftly crafted, provocative, and timely novel that serves as a haunting reminder of the consequences of love in the modern age.
Oohh a book about ‘sexting’, now if you’re over the age of umm lets say 30 you’re probably asking what the heck is this ‘sexting’ well according to that fabulous free source of information known as Wikipedia ‘sexting’ is sending sexually explicit messages via cell phone or instant messenger. Now personally I cant imagine why anyone would want to do such a thing, I mean come on if I have learnt anything from celebrity scandals of the past its never NEVER send someone a lewd photo of yourself but apparently this ‘sexting’ is more prevalent than I thought with 20% of American teens (ages 13-19) and 33% of young adults (ages 20-26) having shared nude or semi-nude pictures of themselves either via text or by posting online (look at me I did some research). So long story short this book is probably a really good idea as it will enlighten young adults about this issue plus it just sounds like a really engrossing read. Also I like how it wasn’t the girl that was sending the photos but the boy which is a pleasant change.
Here’s what Teresa has said about Exposure
“This, my third novel, was inspired by a crisis my son and our family endured in 2009. Because of that, it's very close to my heart. I hope readers will embrace it as well.”
It appears Teresa has had some experience with this issue, which can only add to the novel by making it more realistic.
So if this book tickles your fancy why not read an excerpt HERE!
Well that’s my “waiting on” pick, what's yours this week?

The Summer Before Boys by Nora Raleigh Baskin
Release Date: May 10, 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Age Group: Young Adult
Julia and Eliza are family, but they’re also best friends. They’ve grown up together, and share everything from school and homework to the worlds they’ve created with their imaginations. Now, Julia’s mom has gone overseas to serve with the National Guard in Iraq , and Julia is going to spend the summer living with Eliza and her parents.
But despite all the promise of a summer filled with friendship, sun, and adventure, Julia is distracted by worries for her mother and the sudden development of her first crush. For the first time, Julia and her thoughts are traveling to a place that Eliza can’t follow. And as Julia deals with growing further away from the fantasies the two have always shared, Eliza discovers that it’s not any easier to be the one left behind.
In her follow up to the award-winning Anything But Typical, Nora Baskin Raleigh has written a powerful, touching story about the wedge that can be driven between best friends at the time when they most need each other.
Yep it’s another contemporary book, I’m on this contemporary book reading binge at the moment and this one sounds like a doosey. I just can’t get enough of these highly emotional beautifully written books. What particularly appeals to me about The Summer Before Boys is the exploration of the friendship between two best friends that is changing along with the girls themselves, I’m sure many people can relate to it, I know I can.

Saving June by Hannah Harrington
Release Date: April 19, 2011
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Age Group: Young Adult
When model student June Scott kills herself on the brink of high school graduation, no one is more shocked than her sixteen-year-old sister Harper. Things go from bad to worse after her nosy evangelical aunt moves in to take care of her mom, and when her estranged parents decide to split June’s ashes between them, it’s the last straw. Harper knows she has to take serious action— action that takes form in plotting with her best friend to spread the ashes in the one place June always wanted to live: the California coast.
Enter Jake Tolan, a boy with a classic rock obsession, a bad attitude, and nothing in common with straight-laced June. But after he crashes June’s wake, Harper is sure he knows more about her sister than he’s letting on. Her suspicions only deepen when he discovers the plan to steal the urn and decides he wants in, for reasons he’s none too forthcoming to explain.
Of course, once they’re on the road, things don’t go as smoothly as she’d hoped. First there’s a brush with the law during an anti-war protest gone bad. And if it’s not trying to avoid arrest, it’s dealing with angry threats from parents, public brawls in underground punk clubs, and more accidental detours than Harper can count.
Complicating things even more is her growing attraction to Jake; she’s drawn to his alternately charming and infuriating demeanor, and his unwavering faith in the idea that music can see you through anything. It might be exactly what she needs.
What Harper doesn’t know is that he has a secret with the power to turn her life upside-down— again.
Wow, that’s a long summary but my interest in this book has piqued, I want to know what the secret Jake has that could turn June’s life upside down. I know it sounds like Saving June could turn into a very predictable book, you know quiet shy girl falls for the bad boy, but I do like the whole dealing with grief aspect of the novel so hopefully Saving June won’t be too predictable and contrived, as it’s my WOW pick I’m confident I won’t be disappointed. I’m pretty sure I’ve mention this before but what the heck I’ll mention it again I’ve got this love of books dealing with death and grief, I don’t know what it is I just love reading about how characters deal with their grief, there are so many ways in which it can be expressed and it never fails to astound me how authors can talk about it so eloquently whilst also keeping it very real. Saving June is also a Contemps Challenge book, so get ready to read this all you challenge readers!
