In My Mailbox #17

In My Mailbox is a meme hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren once a week which explores the weekly contents of your mailbox and books bought.

Bought:

Crescendo (Hush, Hush #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick (Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing/October 19, 2010)

Nora should have known her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described as anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away, and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.

The farther Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim blood line has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch, or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?

Torment (Fallen #2) by Lauren Kate (Delacorte Books for Young Readers/September 28, 2010)

How many lives do you need to live before you find someone worth dying for? In the aftermath of what happened at Sword & Cross, Luce has been hidden away by her cursed angelic boyfriend, Daniel, in a new school filled with Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans. Daniel promises she will be safe here, protected from those who would kill her. At the school Luce discovers what the Shadows that have followed her all her life mean - and how to manipulate them to see into her other lives. Yet the more Luce learns about herself, the more she realizes that the past is her only key to unlocking her future...and that Daniel hasn't told her everything. What if his version of the past isn't actually the way things happened...what if Luce was really meant to be with someone else?

Won:

Beautiful Malice by Rebecca James (Allen & Unwin/May 1, 2010)

'Truth or dare?' She asks.
I hesitate. 'Truth,' I say finally. 'I can imagine one of your dares, and I don't fancy running down Oxford Street naked tonight.'
'Truth,' Alice says slowly, drawing out the vowel sound as if she's savouring the word. 'Are you sure? Are you sure you can be completely honest?'
'I think so. Try me.'
'Okay.' And then she looks at me curiously. 'So. Were you glad, deep down? Were you glad to be rid of her? Your perfect sister? Were you secretly glad when she was killed?'

Katherine has moved away from her shattered family to start afresh in Sydney. There she keeps her head down until she is befriended by the charismatic, party-loving Alice, who brings her out of her shell. But there is a dark side to Alice, something seductive yet threatening. And as Katherine learns the truth about Alice, their tangled destinies spiral to an explosive and devastating finale.

An intense and addictive psychological thriller.

I’ve heard a lot about Beautiful Malice, apparently there was a bidding war for the publishing rights to the book, so it will be good to finally read it. Plus Rebecca is an Aussie author, I’ve been trying to read more books by Aussie authors. Huge thanks to Strange Candy Reviews for holding the giveaway!

Congrats for Beautiful Malice! It looks amazing, and I was shocked this was an Aussie book when I first found out. Hope you enjoy your sequels. ;)

Okay, I need to study. :S (hope you do another vlog when the weather clears up ;))
I have read Beautiful Malice and loved it! Co-incidentally I bought Torment and Crescendo this week too.
Here's what I got In My Mailbox
YAY! I bought Crescendo this week as well and can't wait to read it. About whether to get a Kindle - I asked myself some questions to help me decide so maybe they can help you.

1. Do you use NetGalley or want to use NetGalley?
2. Do you read alot of ebooks? This includes ebooks found at other sites than Amazon as well
3. Do you receive author requests in PDF files?

With a Kindle you can have NetGalley send the galleys to your Kindle and ebooks/PDF files can be converted so they can be read on the Kindle. This opens you up to ALOT of opportunities to review books without being confined to sitting at your computer (which was something I struggled with) Then add to that the flexibility to carry your book library around with you and see what you come up with. If you've noticed the last few IMMBs I've had, my Kindle's pretty much paid for it's self so to me it's a worthwhile investment :) LOL sorry for the ramble and I hope this helped a little.
Beautiful Malice looks extremely interesting!
And admittedly, I still haven't picked up copies of Torment and Crescendo just yet. >.< '

Romy @ Lost.in.Stories
Greetings fellow blog readers, welcome to my blog and thank you for stopping by. Now you may be wondering who is lost.in.stories? Well lost.in.stories is also known as Romy, a 23 year old graduate student from Australia who loves to read. I read (maybe devour would be a more appropriate word) largely young adult novels, with a particular love of fantasy and paranormal novels, however I am also a sucker for a good romance.
